Dick Curwin wrote on Monday, May 14, 2012 (PDT):My Mongomery Ward General by Avery/Cletrac stopped running. Investigation showed BOTH contact points had become seperated and were laying on the bottem of the Mag. Do I need a new mag or will new points solve it.

Most of the information about the general gg tractors and replacent parts are available. It just takes a little bit of research. To my knowledge they were produced from 1939 to 1942. They were also made for four other comapnies or distributor s that sold this tractor at the time period. The Cleveland Tractor Co. made the tractor in Cletrac orange, the Wards twin row also the same general gg tractor was in napa red, they also made the general gg tractor for Massey Harris Co. for only two years and only sold them in Canada,the government also wanted these tractors and ordered them in a green color, the Co-Op B1 tractor was also in red but only sold in the Southern Indiana region and no where else. I own an original Co-Op version and do not know how many were manufactured or the paint codes. This Co-Op version was made in 1941 only and no other years. I can get decal replacements, part replacements, and paint codes for all other general gg tractors. The decals and paint codes for the army and Co-Op version I am still working on but very close. I can tell you that the complete rear axle including the gears and housing is the same as a Cockshutt 20 made by Jackson. The original carburetor on mine is a Marvel Schreiber and all other components on my tractor can be replaced or rebuilt. I still have the original hand crank and magneto on this tractor and though the mag has been rebuilt and recharged it runs extremely well. When I bought it, it had sit in a barn for 32 years and I only put 7hrs. on working on it to get it running. Since then it starts on half a crank. I have info. on good places to have the mag s worked on and more info. on the replacemt parts or about the tractor itself in general. That includes the company before the general gg and after the general gg.

Garland Berger wrote on Sunday, July 12, 2009 (PDT):I have a fully restored 1939 General that looks identical to the one in the picture except the wheels are red. I won it in a lottery conducted by the Lake Region Pioneer Threshermen s Association, Dalton, Minesota. It was a real show stopper as I travled home to Vancouver, Washington. Every gas station, motel, historic site or rest area we stopped at brought comments, inquiries or tractor stories. I had no idea so many people were interested in old tractors. It runs great Always starts with one crank! and I enjoy showing it at events in Washington and Oregon. I have now joined a local group of old iron enthusiasts; Fort Vancouvr Antique Equipment Association.

Dan Hayman wrote on Thursday, October 26, 2006 (PDT):At the age of 12 or 13 I was doing all the work with The General. It pulled a 16 inch Avery plow and a disc. That was the extent of the equipment. I wanted my dad to cut the long tongue off the wagon and mowing machine, but he said the horses needed to work. I was in 7th Heaven working The General. One time the front wheel became loose and I had to finish plowing a field with the horses. I had to replace the left wheel brake once. My neighbor had a Ford tractor and we hooked the drawbars together, I killed his engine in 3rd gear, he killed my engine in 2nd gear, and we both set and spun the wheels in first gear. I loved that ole tractor. Thanks...

It was purchased new by my father.It has a manual lift,16in. plow. the Owners Manual lists the paint as Cletrac Orange [Standard], part no. 48000. I remember it as being a brownish orange. Other colors were chestnut brown, black, and buckskin. Sorry I cant offer a source for the paint.
