Marty wrote on Monday, July 11, 2005 (PDT):My father farmed 100+ acres in upstate New York while I was growing up. He sold the farm in appx 1976 but kept 2 tractors for use in gardening, logging and towing. One of those tractors was the Cockshutt 50 deluxe. His was painted completely white. That tractor could pull a heavy load, and was quite fast. Thanks for the memories!

It could clearly have handled another bottom. I was just truly impressed with the smooth power it produced and am very glad that I had the chance to see it in operation.

My parents met while both were employed at the Cockshutt plant in Brantford during the '40s. The Canadian government had commandeered the Cockshutt facility for defence production purposes, turning out components for the Avro Lancaster Mark X bomber being built by Avro Canada in Malton. With the facility upgraded to satisfy wartime defence requirements, Cockshutt was well positioned to do so and swung their production over to tractors after the war ended. Canada Post issued a commemorative postage stamp honouring the first Cockshutt 30 tractors off the Brantford assembly line in 1946. I hope this helps and is of interest.
