I have started a 1066 serial number registry, and I would like to have your serial numbers, name, locations, and a description of the tractor. I am doing it for myself, just to see where they are still located, so far as of 8/20/09, I have compiled a list of 185 1066 s, and I know there are more out there than that. Thanks for your help, and send me your info to add to the 1066 registry!!
chad albert wrote on Monday, May 04, 2009 (PDT):We have a 1066, 1206, 1466, 706g, 706d, 2 m s, 3 c s and a 4386 i dont care for the 86 series on the 7-15s cuz with that cab forward design it made them ride very rough anyone who has a 66 and a 86 will tell u that a 66 was better for a ride but the one advantage to a 86 was the fuel tanks u could run well into the night with them. The left hand shift was a pain to get in and not to handy to shift. When the 50 series came out they went back to the right hand shift and was very well liked. our 1066 runs a healthy 180hp our 1206 is 155hp the 1466 is at 190 cant hold it down with 8 wheel weights and fluid the 4386 is at 235 and all have pyros on the and hit 1200 degs so fast itll make ur head spin to say the least is that all ih s have the same inhearted torque rise in the 400 series engines to out run pull and with less fuel. I rest my case.

John Otten wrote on Saturday, January 24, 2009 (PST):I have logged hours on a International 1086, 766, 674, 574, 884, and 1066 tractors All of them were great to drive and dependable. The 1066 Turbo was the white cab series and bought it with 4700 hours. I was interested in a 4430 John Deere but on a cold day it would not start. The 1066 was able to start in the cold on its own every time. When I selected the 1066 i asked the dealer to put the tractor on the dynometer to see how it ran. He said that he would quarantee that it would put out 150 hp no problem. This tractor had a chrome straight pipe no muffler. As they warmed the tractor up at a low 50 hp level they waited 10 mins till the engine and drive line was warm. The mechanic puleed the throttle wide open. That tractor pulled 210 hp at 2600 rpm. They wouls pull it down to 22oo rpm and it would hold her own. Smoke 90 feet in the air. That dealership gave the tractor the nick name THE BEAST. I bought the tractor after carefull inspection and had them turn the power down to 165 hp. This tractor worked very well. I pulled a 5 furrow 20 inch plow and this was a breeze to pull. You could actually relax plowing and not strain yourself like other tractors thatseemed like you had to help them along in tough spots. The 766 was a great tractor also. The 1086 was excellent but for some reason did not have the beast like character as the 1066. Most like due to the rebuild of the 1066 with new sleves pistons at 1600 hours and rebuild shwitzer turbo. we go to local trator pull and the 66 serie tractors are always in the top for pulling. I rest my case.

I buried it a couple of times dragging the disc harrow thru a soft spot, took 2 neighbors 3 tractors to unstick it....the duals were a chore but wasn t bad, the T/A went out at around 2200 hrs most would fail before 2500 hrs , was a thirsty devil, would plow for 4 hrs gulp down most of the 42 gal tank...sold it in 1990...

He s showing it, and is right now one-for-one in local shows. Oh, yeah, it might have come stock with only 80 horsepower, but just a short time after buying it new, he put a blower on it. Right now she s cranking around 115. She ll pull circles around anything. But now it s only a show tractor. It s hard to beat those old tractors.

You could hook 5 bottom plows behind it and it would still eat just about any deere you put around it. We did everything with that tractor. My dad ended up selling it to a tractor pulling team i believe.

We also own a 1066(with and intercooler) which we took the cab off and repainted and added a nice 6in. chrome stack and new tires all the way around. I think this tractor is the coolest tractor ever. The rest of our tractors include a 70 hydro(the most manuverable and easily operated tractor i have ever drove) a 806D and a 1486(this tractor has well over 10,000 hours and never had the engine touched) and a 1480 combine with the DT466. I love red and dont understand the Deere fans out there.

Still have that one (1973 model) restored front to back, top to bottom 2 years ago turning around 150-160 hp, would do a lot more but enjoy her to much to destroy. Red makes others GREEN with envy. Remember RED POWER FOREVER AND EVER...even if the name Case is in it!!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA

There are more on a Farmall retirement plan that aren't used daily. WE have a cub, A, C, H, 2 Ms (1 with a picker), 584 overhauled, 4 1066s (3 open station all are white stripes) and a 1466 white cab. There is also a 5088 in the shop that has been in "overhaul" for a few years now. the shop needs to get their butts in gear. These tractors are great, the 1066's can't be beat for their looks, their engines and the Name. I wan't to buy a 10 for myself when I get my place. I only hope that inlcludes some acreage to use her on! ;)

There was a gap in quailty between the 756 and the 5288. Our 756 has about 20000 hours on it and I just rebuilt it this year our 5288 has over 10000 on it and an engine overhaul 1000 Hours ago both excellent tractors

Bets were placed on the outcome. but my 1206 has a few more ponies under the hood. we both made full pulls. we came back around for the pull off. they added more weigh to the sled. the 220 pull it short of a full pull. the old 1206 tightened the chain and blew it out the end. the ac people were shocked. since they had ted 15500 class for 2 yearys. so go red power

I took it to a tractor pull this summer, and everyone was like “you are going to tear it up” it has a good record at teh track. MY tractor tore it up until the turbo whined down. Then I just stopped, had nothing. The tractor was dinoed at 145 when I got it, but it has a intercooler put on it. What I am thinking it was turned down and maybe did something to the governor to get it down to 145 hp again. I was told I could push 200hp with the intercooler installed I have backed the screw out a few turns on the pump, but I can’t tell the difference, it doesn't seem like it is gettting enough fuel. When using the tractor for farm work especially pulling our 4*18 moldboard plows ti does the same thing. Pictures that people have taken when I was pulling last year showed I was putting out very little dark smoke and I know this is wrong. I am new to the scean of the 66 series. We have only ran reds. I would like to do a little better this year and just increase the all around performance of my tractor. I am 19 and am fairly mechanical, just have the experience. Could anyone help me?

856 puller. wrote on Friday, November 05, 2004 (PST):i pull a 856 with a turbo, 806,1066, and 1466. they are all good runners. i pull my 856 in the 10,500 class. she pulls agenst a 4020 with 466jd and i can still beet that 4020. the 856 has a 4100 flywheel and lots more goodies. i pull the 806 in 9500, the 1066 in 13500, and the 1466 in 15500. i pulled my buddys pete with a pot cattle out with the 856. she tightenedthe chain and blew it out the end.

806 with 466 in her wrote on Friday, October 08, 2004 (PDT):my 806 has a 466 in her. the old moter was a gas but it was blowen up when i bought her. it has a pulling ta and pulling clutch in her. she is an early 806 with round fenders. it looks prity cool with the big tires on her. i still do some farm work with her. my naber has a 4320 and thought he had something till i pulled him acrass the yard. i first started pulling back in 1995 on a 1466 pedal tractor my uncal had set up for pulling. but that 806 is more fun. most pulling tractors have names my 806 name is feed lot speshelt. i pull her in 8500,9500,10,500, and 11,500. she will put out 320 hp. live red and stay red amen.

We recnetly purchased 1468 with a dv 550 (awsome machine) and added a couple 5 inch chrome straight pipes. I was wondering if anyone out there in the wonderful world of red power has, or know of someone who has a M & W turbo kit manufactured for the 14 and 1568 models that they might be willing to sell. Also we have a 1086 that we will be attempting to pull this season and i could use all the helpful info i could get! The problem is I helped my buddy build a 966 (now a 1066 becausue we pulled the air reasearch to4 turbo off of a 1066, did a little compressor modification, and bolted it on. Its a hot little machine and now we are trying to build something that will beat it. Nothing like a little friendly competiton! The main problem is the 1086 doesn have a ta and i jsut dont know how she will perform in front of a sled even with the 11 mm head in the pump and turbo work. Like i said, i would greatly appreciate any info, no mattter how small the tip might be....and if anyone knows of a turbo kit for the 1468 please let me know. Scott

1466 4-wd motor and passing cars wrote on Sunday, December 07, 2003 (PST):my 1466 has a 4366 motor. i put a ih truck fuil pump on it. well it is also my bailing tractor. eventhuoh it is open cab. when i turn the valve it will put out over 250 hp. i had to go through town and the road is 4 lane i thought it would be fun to pass cars and trucks. i truned the valve and the speed is 35 i got her going about 45 and was passing people. the news paper took my pitcher and the head line said tractor passing cars go figar. i pull her and usually get 1 or 2 place. but the green boys still can't bet ih power. go rd power.

Erik Iverson wrote on Sunday, January 27, 2002 (PST):We had a 656 gas, 756 gas, 766, and a 1086. all of them were great tractors and rarely had any problems. before the 1086 we had a 986, and before that the big tractor was a 966. the 756 was bought to replace the old M tractor. Now they are all gone in the auction we had back in 98, but we still have the 656. Personally i always liked the 766, probably because I drove it alot for field work. the 1086 got the most work cutting hay with the 1190, baling, and using the 1000 gehl chopper. I never really liked the 1086 shifting, you always had to stop, even on the 986 too. hope to make some good money after college to run a hobby farm, and buy some of those tractors back!

It also pulls a 300 bushel gravity wagon on flat ground with no problems. We have a 68' 856 with a loader that does all of our mowing,baleing,bushogging, and loader work. Our 73' 1466 is a real workhorse also. It gets alot of heavy work and pulls a 30 ft. grain drill as well as a 450 bushel grain cart, but it is not so big that it can't do smaller work such as spreading fertilizer etc. All three are excellant and powerful tractors that were built when IH was the king of the tractor world. I am glad to see CASE IH finally trying to get back some of the tractor market, but International Harvester tractors will always be THE BEST EVER BUILT.

One day they were just about ready to quit for lunch and a Case dealer pulls in with a new 4wd tractor and disk . After about an hour of talk , the dealer talked them into a demonstration . My grandfather watched and was somewhat impressed , Mr. Frank (friend) was not he jumped on the 1066 and started down the field well behind the case it wasnt to long until he had passed it and started back to the other end of the field . The case had the all new Power Shift Transmission Mr Frank said " as i passed him i could see he kept bumping up gears until i was long gone and he had bogged the case down" . After that the salesman loaded the case up and said I sure would like to sale y'all this tractor but looks like you got all you need with that RED STUFF.

Where we dynoed it the limit was 135 and she was only half throttle and it was maxed out. We got a John Deere 1010 field cultivator that is 22 1/2 feet wide and she pulls it with no duals. With the chrome dogleg she has lots of bark to her.

The engines are in Navistar as well as other trucks such as the Ford F250 diesel trucks. The last time I looked at the statistics Navistar was the second largest supplier of diesel engines in North America second only to Cummins.

The 66 series tractors to me are the best looking tractors out their even today. I have only farmed with red power tractors such as a H, 300, 560, 706, 756, 856, (My Favorite), and 1086. These are tractors we have on our farm. I can attest to you that by operating these awesome machines that their is no reason to operate any other. The IH engines is what made the tractor, because they had the best diesel engine on the market at the time. I just want to know who bought the engine works plant of IH. I know Tenneco bought IH farm equipment, but am wondering if the IH engine legacy is still thriving in another engine maker?

Funny how I spent half of my childhood avoiding chores, but would give anything to work on the farm instead of at a desk in a "cube farm". At home, I've worked with a 1066 and a 1256. Sort of like the 1256 (maybe because it had a straight pipe). Would like to see a 1066 and 1256 go drawbar to drawbar. Now the 695 has replace our 1066 but it's not the power of a 6 cylinder engine. Whenever the 1066 was face to face with a chalenge, he would always come through.
