This picture is a 1948 model. The first TO-20 rolled off the production line in 1948 with Serial Number 1. It was an immediate success - they were reliable and priced competitively with Ford's new 8N. Due to their extreme reliability, many of the TE-20s were used in Antarctica by the British exploration program. Three of them (especially equipped) carried the famous Sir Edmund Hillary expedition on a 1,200 mile trip to the South Pole.

To Sue, You can look on the lft side of the motor just aboe the oil pan and it will have a cast number of Z120 for a TO20 and No. Z129 for TO30. If the oil filter is inside the oilpan it a TO20. There should be a tag next to the steering post with a TO ser. no. If tou find all of these check w/www.montesequipment.com/ as they handle the continnal motors for Ferguson. Good luck. Bob

It has an internal oil filter if that helps and there are numbers all over the darn thing. Which ones tell the year and model? It is 6 volt and cranks over slow and has very weak spark. About 1950 we had a Ferguson model 20-85 and it had a loader LUO with manure forks it had arms that lvered on brackets where fenders mount. It had a bracket that fit on rear 3 point hitch arms with a pintle hook. The manure spreader was Ferguson too and had a pintle hook hole. The loader was quite light but very, very efficient. could unhook by lowering hydraulics and just drive ahead , load in a couple of minutes and backup to spreaderand hook up again without leaving the seat. You could take the loader off in minutes just leaving the main brackets.

I own a TO-30 and a Sauder Loader (currently not attached). It escapes me as to best way to achieve live hydraulics on these older TO's. I have a splined coupling welded to the water pump pulley from previous owner, to which a front mount pump connects, after trashing the front grill of course. Bought a Ferguson Tractor. The number on the left side of the block is; Z120A-600. Was told this was a TO-20, 1950 year modle. I ordered that book for it but the book says that this 1950 TO-20 is suspose to have a 6 volt system with a generator. Mine has a alternator and is 12 volts. Did Ferguson built a 12 volt system?(Ferguson, not Massey ferguson) Could this tractor have been changed over to a 12 volt system are is my tractor not a 1950, TO-20. Any help would be appreciated.

I just finished restoring a 1950 Fergerson TO 20. It belonged to my uncle who was a peanut farmer. He farmed with this tractor about 30 years. The tractor is in excelent condition, the tractor had no rust or holes. The tractor is also very strait.

They both have been rebuilt, but the hyd. are original and still work amazingly well. I think these Fergusons were the best tractors every built!My dad farmed 400 acres in 1967 with his TO-30. I own a TO-30 and am restoring a TO 20. I need Mad money for my hit and miss habit so To-20 will be up for sale this spring. Remember to change the oil in the rear end it takes 6 gal 80-90 wt oil. A lot of dirt and water build up here!

6 mounthsago i bought a fergie it was preet well cobbed the right side rear tire hub assem etc was off a ford 9n and has no tage on it to tel what year model etc ive called a few trac shops and discribed it they all say its a te20 becouse of the lucus ingnition but when i blew a water pump and ordered a new one it ws wrong when we ordered it from the casting number off the old water pump it still was wrong the water pump i need is triangle in casting shape and the bolt holes for the fan are kind of off set 2 really close 2 rather farther apart the person i bought the tractor from says the engine is a triumph but all the trac dealers says its gotta be a contanetal please help i love my little trac and would love to hear it purrring againe

My dad bought a To-20 in 1950 and I have it now. It still runs great and even though it was used hard through the years, it has only been overhauled once in 1964. In response to Ark's questions, I converted mine to 12v about 10 years ago. I used a 12v Ford car generator, but if you use an alternator, use a small one off a 4 cyl. as a big one will drag the tractor's engine down. I kept the 6v starter and the and the fast spinning starts the tractor so fast that it hasn't burnt out in all these years. I will eventually have to have it rewired to 12v. As far as your coil is concerned, it's ok. You'll have to pick up a ballast resistor at your local parts store. As it is a generic type item, it costs less than $10 usually.

I am the proud owner of a TO-30 Harry Ferguson. The hydraulics on the old girl could not lift the implements and when they did lift it would bleed off very quickly. A friend and I tore the hydraulics out and had everything repaired. However, the machinist who repaired all the parts said that there is a schematic of the "proper putting back together sequence" or else things will break again. I have looked through my service manual and found no such schematic. Can anyone help?

TO;ERH40 I have a 1950 TO30. On mine a have a lever that sounds like what you just mentioned, mine controls the up and down movement for my front end bucket. It's kind of like a back hoe bucket except it has a manual tilting bucket. and hydraulic's for the raising and lowering of the front bucket... Hope this helps you. The TO-20 is very similar to the ford 9N at the 2n, The TO-20 however is more powerful than the ford.
