| 05:53 05/19/15 The Find| I was cruising the local craigslist ads the other weekend and came across a "john deere sorghum harvester" listed in the farm and garden section. I could tell right away it was a corn binder and it piqued my interest for many reasons. I knew it was fairly rare, I had never seen one before, and it was only 15 minutes from home no less. I called on it and the guy told me where it was if I wanted to look at it. I went and found that it was seemingly complete, in good shape, everything was free and seemed to have been well greased. It was originally used in a sorghum molasses operation then it sat in a shed for 40 plus years. I immediately called the guy back and he met me out there and we struck a deal. I'm very nervous about just hooking this thing up to the PTO and letting it rip. My first order of business is oiling chains, installing new grease fittings, lubrication, and seeing if I can get it to turn by hand. My next goal is getting it operational, using it to bundle up some fall decorations, and then contemplate a restoration. Here are some photos. | | |

A Brief History of Tractors in Australia - by Bob Kavanagh. After Captain Cook's exploration of the east coast in 1770 the British Government decided to establish a penal colony in Australia. The first fleet arrived in 1788 and consisted mainly of convicts who were poorly equipped and new little of farming techniques. The colony remained far from self-supporting and it was not until the early 1800's that things started to improve. Free settlers started to arrive, they followed the explorers across the mountains and where land was suitable set up farms. T
